"Sister Sue"
(words and music by Scott Adams)
It's a parking lot this morning
but last night it was a spawning ground
for conversations we all lost
but took us closer than the warm beers ever do...
She propelled us past our sixth sense
to dreams we couldn't scan
took to the roof our intuition - her plan
Sister Sue
Now we're waiting sister sue
the miracle is you
can you wing another formula
it's long overdue
She's a cop in some respects - and a priest
it's a place it's too much harvest
Its wings we have forgotten
It's a parking lot this morning
and she'll sweep it 'til it bleeds
forth memories of what it's seen
& what it fuels at night
Sister Sue
Now we're waiting sister sue
the miracle is you can you
wing another formula
it's long overdue
Can you bring more medicine, it's up to you
Sister Sue
About the Song:
This song taught me something... I had been playing it for a few months and was about to drop it from my set. For some reason I played it at this one gig. It turns out that this was the tune that made Dan White want to work with me to record a CD. Guess I'm not always the best judge of my material.
I wrote the words sitting along a lagoon somewhere in northern California. The music came a little later. I played in a Javanese style gamelan and was into the idea of some instruments playing ahead and literally telling the instruments that follow what to play. The little cello melody between the verses is a result of that idea.
