Technical Notes on Songspace

For all you web-heads out there, here are a few remarks
on the geeky, behind-the-scenes stuff:
The calendar engine is a commercial PHP application
called Calendar Express 2, made by PHPLite.com.
It's more feature-rich than most of the freely available
calendar scripts, and very customizable. Which is good,
because I had to do a lot of customizing
to get it to do what I wanted.
The venue search, recommend, contact, and directory
forms are processed with PHP, which I either wrote or adapted
from scripts found at phpfreaks.com,
phpbuilder.com,
and hotscripts.com.
Javascript was used to validate all the data entry
forms, to activate some jump menus and other navigation
elements, and to "randomize" the photographic
banners at the top of every page.
The site was created using Dreamweaver 4, Photoshop/ImageReady
7, and Alpha 7 (text editor), on a Mac G4 running Systems
9.2.2 and 10.3.5.
Testing and validation were done in:
- Mac/System 9: IE 5 and 5.1, NS 7, Mozilla
1.2.1, AOL 5
- Mac/OSX: IE 5.1, Safari, Mozilla 1.7.3
- Windows: IE 6 in Windows XP, IE 5 in
Windows 98
Songspace is hosted by Westhost.
They offer great hosting packages, lots of features, and
excellent customer service. Nice folks. Tell 'em I sent
you.
If you're on a Mac and creating or maintaining a
website, I recommend you use Fetch to upload your files.
It's been the standard for years, runs reliably under Systems
9 and X, and is easy to use. You can buy
Fetch online from eSellerate.
