Making the Connection
Seattle is home to some of the best independent singer-songwriters
in the country, and some of the most passionate fans of
fine songwriting anywhere.
The purpose of Songspace is to provide a place where these
artists and music-lovers can connect where listeners
can learn more about Seattle singer-songwriters and find
out where they're playing, and where Seattle artists can
reach out to new fans.
Something like Songspace has been needed for a long time
in Seattle, where local singer-songwriters are all but ignored
by the media, and venues that support their music come and
go so often. Such a climate can make artists feel theyre
fighting an uphill battle to build an audience, and leave
listeners wondering where to turn for information about
local songwriters.
As both a singer-songwriter and a music fan living in Seattle,
I've experienced each side of this "communication gap,"
and I offer Songspace as one solution. Whether you're an artist or a listener, I hope you find it
enjoyable and useful.
Focus on Community
Over the past few years, I've witnessed and participated
in the growing spirit of community among singer-songwriters
in the Seattle area. It's an exciting trend. More than ever,
artists are working together to build a local scene that's
cooperative, supportive, and organized, and contributes
to everyone's success.
Songspace is an expression of those ideals. It was created
by one person, yet is designed to benefit the entire community.
It addresses our shared needs and goals, yet celebrates
each artist's individuality. It models the kind of proactive,
grass-roots action needed to create the music scene we want.
It's free and available to all.
And, best of all, to the degree that Songspace succeeds,
everyone wins: The more artists who post their events on
the calendar, the more useful it becomes to listeners; the
more listeners who visit Songspace, the more useful it becomes
to artists trying to widen their audience.
Dig it.
